During this New Year’s season, I realize many people are making resolutions to make 2011 be ‘the year of weight loss’. I applaud you if that is your goal, your New Year’s resolution.

I truly want to do all I can to help you reach that goal!

One of the things that I have found to be particularly effective in the people I have successfully coached to lose weight is this: Honest assessment of WHY they are overweight in the first place. Time and again, people skip this step — and jump right into the ‘tactical steps’ of what exactly to eat, and when, etc.

However, this is a SERIOUS MISTAKE. Addressing the specific REASON WHY you are in this situation is very important. It can give you a hint as to the best way to find a solution. It can also open the door, in a way that has never been done before.

Today, I’d like to introduce you to yet another great leader within the field of preventive health, Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn. Very specifically, he has made significant contributions to the field of understanding and harnessing the power of nutrition to prevent and revers heart disease. As a surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic, he has conducted and created outstanding and compelling results.

I first met Dr. Esselstyn some months ago. Aside from our commonality of surgical training, we realized that we had competitive rowing in common. I enjoyed this sport in college and medical school. He, however, took it to a whole new level. While a student at Yale University, he actually competed in the US Olympics and his team took home the gold! WOW! Needless to say, he is a man committed to excellence in everything he does.
